The Miss Missouri Scholarship Competition is a preliminary competition to the Miss America Program. The Miss America Organization is one of the world's largest scholarship providers to young women.

Eligibility

To become a local or state participant for the Competition Cycle 2026, (some states starting locals in March of 2024) competing as a State Titleholder at the national Miss America Competition in January 2026, you must meet the age and residency criteria as shown below.

Teen | Ages 14-17 - must be 14 by state competition (June 10, 2025) AND no older than 18 at state competition (June 10, 2025)
Miss | Ages 18-28 – Delegate must be 18 by state competition, and no older than 27 at state competition (June 10, 2025 in Missouri).

She must be a resident of the State of Missouri, OR be employed full time in Missouri, OR be a full-time college student in the state (a minimum 12-hour class load).

If she has moved to Missouri from another state, she must be a resident of Missouri for a minimum of 30 days or be enrolled at a college or university in the state of Missouri before the local competition. If her eligibility is from being employed in the State of Missouri, she must have had sixty (60) days of continuous full-time employment before the local competition.

More information on eligibility can be found on the Miss America site.

Participation

The delegate must enter a local competition. Our local competitions are listed here. An “Open” competition means she may be from anywhere in the state to enter as long as she meets the eligibility requirements listed above. A “Closed” competition has certain criteria for participation. The individual local competition will explain the specific criteria.

Prior to participating at a local competition, a delegate must register with the Miss America Opportunity here.

Each delegate will also join the Miss America Partnership with the American Heart Association, and register a profile on Spotfund. Local directors will assist in this process.

The winners of our local competitions participate in the state Miss Missouri or Miss Missouri’s Teen Competition in June at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri.

Each delegate is to have a "Community Service Initiative ”. This is an organization and/or cause that she supports through service, leadership, and/or advocacy.

Areas Of Competition

All delegates compete in the following areas in which they are judged by a panel of 5 – 7 impartial judges:

  • Interview: 30%

  • Talent: 20%

  • Evening-wear: 20%

  • Fitness: 20%

  • On-Stage Interview Question: 10%

Winners

The winners of the local competitions will be the Miss Missouri delegates for the next state competition and from among them, one young woman will be crowned Miss Missouri.

  • Miss or Teen Local is expected to follow the regulations set by the local competition board. This could include making appearances in the local community, preparing for the Miss Missouri competition, realizing that there will be extra expenses related to preparation for which she will be responsible, being a role model to others, and always honoring the crown in her public and private behavior.

  • She will continue to support the American Heart Association and will meet fundraising requirements.

  • She will be expected to meet deadlines established by the Miss Missouri Scholarship Organization for paperwork and will attend the Winter Workshop in March and the delegate Orientation, which is typically on a Saturday in April.

  • She will attend the entirety of the Miss Missouri or Miss Missouri’s Teen Competition at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri, including scheduled activities on days prior to the actual competition days such as sponsored meals, parties, golf outing, rehearsals, Show-Me Stars luncheon, and other potential events.

This is an exciting opportunity – one in which over 12,000 young women participate nationwide each year. While winning is of course not guaranteed for any particular candidate, we can guarantee that by becoming part of the Organization as a delegate you will meet wonderful people, grow as an individual, and make memories to last a lifetime.
